1. About this module

This module is designed to:
• heighten your awareness of what constitutes academic integrity
• inform you of the importance of acknowledging the sources that you have used in your academic
writing and
• introduce you to the conventions of citing sources in different disciplines.

In particular, this module will explain how to avoid plagiarism.

You should work through each of the short topics, answering the questions at the end of each topic as you go and checking your answers. Then take the final quiz. You may re-take the quiz as many times as you like. Your results will be sent to you at your University email address.

Note Remember that taking the quiz is only a starting point in learning how to write well at university!

You are strongly advised to further develop your writing skills and avoid plagiarism by:

• calling in to see a learning adviser in the Academic Skills Program
• asking for feedback from your lecturer about your writing
• working with tutors in your Learning Resource Centre
• attending workshops run by the Academic Skills Program and the UC Library, eg referencing
• reading other websites on academic writing such as:
